About Us

The seeds for Goldsmith Motor Services were laid over 30 years ago in a small lockup garage in Brixton, South London. Having served his City and Guilds apprenticeship, Doug Goldsmith, at the age of 22, decided to 'go it alone' repairing motor vehicles and carrying out recovery work for local people and businesses. Three years later, due to redevelopment, Doug moved the business to his home town, Croydon, where he carried on with repairs and recovery work.

The business became a family concern and, in 1998, Goldsmith Motor Services opened an MOT Testing Station in South Croydon which also carried out repair, recovery and logistics work. The garage quickly became one of the busiest in Croydon with a customer base including Ryder, Dees, Grays Trucks, Leader Trucks and London Ambulance Service to name but a few. The recovery and logistics side also expanded due to very good working relationships with our existing customers.

In 2003 the recovery business separated from Goldsmith Motor Services in the form of a partnership. Today it is one of the most respected and busiest independent recovery companies in the South East. The fleet consists of 18 trucks and service vans and we have the ability and experience to recover motorbikes, cars, vans and trucks up to 50 tons.

In 2007, whilst retaining the existing premises at South Croydon, Goldsmith Motor Services purchased new £1.2 million purpose-built premises in Kings Way, Croydon. Whilst being shared with the recovery business, the premises also comprise another Class 4, 5 and 7 MOT Testing Station and modern workshops with the latest diagnostic equipment. The staff are fully trained and the business has achieved ISO and PAS 43 accreditation.

The logistics side works for dealerships, auctions, insurance and salvage companies and runs a full UK and International Operators Licence. The fleet includes single, double and six car transporters and a low loader unit and trailer driven by experienced UK and European drivers.
